Strategic Support of European Research Competences

The EU Strategy Project of the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (h_da) aims to further develop the existing research-supporting structures and services of the university in the direction of EU research. It also provides information and financial support for applicants of EU-projects.

Initial situation

University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (h_da), with its research groups, institutes and recently founded research centers, has been successful in the field of federal research funding (BMBF and departmental research) for more than 15 years. The University already has European research experience and is networked in a variety of ways in relevant communities of researchers and cooperates with companies.
With the Center for Research and Development (ZFE), a self-governance of researchers, the university has a university-wide institution that bundles R & D activities.
As the first Hessian and one of the first universities of applied sciences in Germany, the h_da has set up a graduate school for the content-related and financial support of cooperative doctoral candidates.

Objective

The project is embedded in the R & D strategy developed by ZFE, which focuses on building a stable research framework within and outside the h_da with appropriate communication structures based on a strengths and weaknesses analysis. The project builds on the existing structures and develops them in the direction of a stronger focus on the European Research Area.

Activities

To support European research at the university, a coordinator position has been established and integrated into the existing research support of the university. The coordinator offers target group-specific informational support for EU research and application activities.
To this end, diverse information on EU research in general and calls in particular are viewed, evaluated against the background of the concrete needs of researchers, processed and forwarded to the researchers and research groups.
In addition, the project provides financial support. This applies e.g. for travel expenses for attending conferences, workshops and courses, but also for administrative tasks in the preparation of applications. In this case, material and personnel costs are incurred regularly. In addition, funds will be made available for the reduction of the teaching load for applying Professors.
